Did you know Columbia International University has a European campus in Korntal, Germany? And like any other college campus, they like to celebrate graduation ceremonies.

That’s why CIU Interim President Dr. Rick Christman and CIU Provost Dr. James Lanpher travelled to Korntal, a suburb of Stuttgart, to be a part of an October commencement.

The Korntal campus is known in Europe as AWM or Academy World Mission. Their motto is:

Your Academy.

Our World.

God’s Mission.

The campus provides theological, intercultural and professional training for those in full-time church ministry or professionals desiring theological training, bringing together a diverse group of students united in the desire to be part of God's mission in our own sphere of influence.

There were 53 students receiving degrees at the commencement; 16 students graduated from Conflict Transformation and Systemic Organizational Development training courses while 37 earned a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS), or a bachelor's or a master's diploma. About half of the graduates were on campus for the event, the other half were mostly already on assignment around the world.

Over 100 invited guests gathered for the commencement including Alexander Noak, the mayor of Korntal.

Tobias Menges, dean of  CIU Korntal, discussed the value of a theological diploma: Although the study itself inspires and qualifies, the actual value only becomes apparent in the application of what has been learned. Because studying also shapes person and character, it enables a new self-image. Following the words of the Apostle Paul from his first letter to the Corinthians, those completing the course should see themselves as “trustees” of what God has entrusted to them. In responsibility before Jesus Christ, this protects against both devaluation and arrogance.

CIU’s history with AWM dates back to 1995, when CIU’s seminary became the first in the United States to offer an accredited theological degree in Europe with no U.S. residency requirement.

CIU is celebrating 100 years of its mission to “educate people from a biblical worldview to impact the nations with the message of Christ.” The university consistently ranks among the Top Regional Universities in the South by U.S. News & World Report, as well as a Best Value Regional University in the South. Apply now or request information on enrollment by contacting Admissions at (803) 807-5024 or admissions@gdzhipin.com.
